From legendary investigative reporter ROGER RAPOPORT we get the breaking scoop that top management at the rookie New Jersey firm trying to restart Michigan’s Palisades reactor has fired much of its top staff.
Joining co-host KEVIN KAMPS in western Michigan, Roger reports from Muskegon that Holtec, which owns Palisades, has prompted deep public concern about the safety of the dead “zombie” nuke where it’s now loading fuel.
Palisades' former general manager—recently gone from his long-standing position---has compared plant safety preparations to “building a fire engine on the way to a fire”.
Official sources have warned the odds on a serious accident are now one in twenty.
With no experience in operating or re-starting a nuke reactor, Holtec must get Palisades running by March or risk losing billions in state and federal loans, while the reactor would run without significant insurance, jeopardizing the lives and property of millions of downwind Americans.
Rapoport’s reporting has resonated through major media across Michigan while Kamps has helped engineer major federal lawsuits on the plant.
Together they bring to our Solartopian community a uniquely comprehensive view of a reactor project that now threatens the entire Great Lakes and the core of the global atomic power industry.
